Contemporary Energy Newsletter

Issue 1, November 2012

Welcome to the very first edition of our company newsletter. Our primary aim is to keep previous customers in touch with more recent developments in the company. But it will also be of interest anyone who has come across Contemporary Energy for the first time.

If you have had an installation or a solar thermal kit from us, we would love to have photographs from you that we could put in our archive. With permission, we might be able to use them on our website. Testimonials are always very welcome, too.

Do please have a look at all our developments. We would love to have your feedback on this first issue.
Please let us know what you would like to see in Issue 2 (anticipated February 2013).

Feel free to forward this to anyone else who might be interested in our work

WEBSITE FORUM
We have recently added a forum to our website. We are encouraging as many people as possible to register on the forum and post questions or comments on a range of topics. We have already built up a significant bank of questions and answers on all manner of topics to do with our products: solar PV systems, solar thermal hot water systems and the new solar kettle.

We would strongly encourage existing customers to sign up to this forum and let us (and the wider internet community) hear about your experience of your installed system or kit. It would be great to get some discussions on your contribution to making the planet that bit greener.

NEW SOLAR KETTLE
James Bentham's prototype solar kettle has now been completely redesigned and is now in production. They are about the size of a large thermal flask, weigh only 1.3 kg, and come in stylish red or blue.

A solar kettle would make a wonderful Christmas present for anyone who likes the outdoor life - campers, hikers, fishing folk, bird watchers; the list goes on.
PUBLICATIONS
We have published some e-articles summarising current discussions about issues concerning solar PV or solar thermal installations.

So far there are four articles covering intelligent immersions, the new solar kettle and what precautions to take to mitigate the effects of a fire near a solar installation.

You can find these articles via the forum. We would encourage you to respond with your views on any of the matters discussed.
FEED-IN TARIFF
From 1 November 2012 the domestic feed-in tariff for installations less than 4 kWp has been further reduced to 15.44p/kWh (unit). While this may seem unattractive there are other factors which offset the impact of this reduction.
  • The export tariff is 4.5p/kWh.
  • The price of energy has just recently been increased by around 10% by almost all energy companies.
  • Hardware prices continue to fall.

The feed-in tariff is reviewed every three months so these estimates will need to be recalculated in February. It is not expected that the first year ROI will change by very much.

STAFF NEWS
We have said goodbye to Toby Bentham who left us in the summer to pursue other interests. He was an excellent ambassador for Contemporary Energy and we received many testimonials from customers who appreciated not only his workmanship but also his extremely cheerful disposition.

On the plus side, in August we welcomed Jim Carroll who has taken on the responsibility of marketing the new solar kettle. He is a recent graduate in Business Administration and is relishing the opportunity to have a new product to be responsible for.

He would love to hear from you!
