Domestic Automatic
Power Backup Systems
Contemporary Energy can supply automatic battery backup solutions to provide continuous power to domestic equipment such as fridges, freezers, lighting, gas central heating, computers, routers, Wi-Fi, TV, etc. even when the mains power fails.
We offer off-the-shelf kits of various capacities - Basic, Intermediate, Premium and Heavy Duty. You can also build a bespoke system by choosing your own components, or if you tell us what your requirements are, we can design a system that is perfect for you.
To help you choose the appropriate combination you can use the calculator below which gives typical ratings of various items in the home. Check those items you wish to run during a power outage to see the sort of power rating you should aim for. You can also estimate the endurance, the amount of back-up time you can expect from various combinations of inverter-chargers and batteries.
When the system detects a power cut it instantly switches over to the back-up supply. Your computers will remain on with no data loss and the TV won't even flicker as the power switch-over occurs. When you are using the battery back up as the power source, if you are able to limit the use of the higher power appliances, the time that the batteries will last will be greatly extended. Hence we have included the 500W benchmark endurance as a comparison.
When using a back-up supply it is not advisable to use an oven, air conditioning, an iron or electric heater as these will severely reduce the amount of time (endurance) that the back-up system can operate.
Our four main kits include a modified sine wave inverter-charger. The following gadgets work well with a modified sine wave: computers, motor-driven appliances, toasters, coffee makers, most stereos, ink jet printers, refrigerators, TV's, VCR's, many microwave ovens, etc.
Appliances that are known to have problems with the modified sine wave are some digital clocks, some battery chargers, light dimmers, some battery operated gadgets that recharge in an AC receptacle, some chargers for hand tools. In the case of hand tools, the problem chargers usually have a warning label stating that dangerous voltages are present at the battery terminals when charging.
Should you require a pure sine wave inverter-charger please use the Bespoke ordering option.
